Online Course Delivery for 2020

The 2020 Accelerate Law programme will be delivered online, to allow you to experience world-class collegiate learning from home during the period of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Course outline

Designed for students who are considering taking a law degree, this one-week, on-line programme is for students who may wish to pursue a career in law. The course serves as an opportunity for students to discover more about learning the law in a university setting and the different routes to a career in law. It provides tutor-led lectures, interactive learning, independent study and additional reading.

Through this one-week programme, students will learn how to:

  • Learn about law-related careers
  • Learn about the legal system
  • Understand the sources of law
  • Recognise the court system of England and Wales
  • Recognise legal issues
  • Learn how to deal with legal problems
  • Appreciate how legal disputes are resolved
  • Present legal arguments
  • Develop reflective thinking

Students reflect upon fundamental principles such as the rule of law, the need for rules, and the interface between the individual and the state. Students also review areas of law regarding civil disputes and forms of conflict resolution.  Through legal problem questions, students will identify the issues raised by the problem, identify the relevant law, apply the law and provide client advice demonstrating the ability to utilise language which the lay client can understand.

Modes of Study

The study modes include:

  • Tutor input
  • Self-directed learning
  • Interactive learning
  • Case studies
  • Reading and understanding law journal articles
